Healthy Choices in Our School CafeteriasFood Service

School meals are a great value and convenience for busy families. We are continually striving to offer healthier and tastier choices to students at our Cambridge cafeterias with healthy new menus and Local Farm to School food. We offer milk, fruits and vegetables, proteins and grains that meet strict limits on saturated fat and portion size. Our school lunches meet additional standards requiring the following:

  • Age-appropriate calorie limits
  • Larger servings of vegetables and fruits (students must take at least one serving of produce)
  • A wider variety of vegetables, including dark green and red/orange vegetables and legumes
  • Fat-free or 1% milk (flavored milk must be fat-free)
  • More whole grains
  • Less sodium

Account Balances

You will use your e-Funds account to deposit money in student lunch accounts and pay milk break fees. You can also review lunch account records with your Family Access (Skyward) account. Our district has the following policy concerning account balances:

  • Any student with an account balance of -$8.00 or more is allowed to eat hot lunch.
  • Any student with insufficient funds is allowed to have a sandwich and milk for $1.00.

Please note: It may take up to two days for deposits to be processed in Family Access.
If you know that your student cannot wait for two days, please send cash with them, or give money directly to the school office secretary, for immediate processing.

>> If you have questions regarding free/reduced fee eligibility or your Family Access (Skyward) account, please contact Mrs. Jenny Loether @ 608.423.7335 x2111.

Tips to Navigating the Lunch Room

A menu board is posted outside every kitchen door. We ask that students look at the daily menu before entering the lunch line so they are ready to make their selections. Please be aware of the following food serving guidelines for second helpings:

Fruits and Vegetables

Students at all grade levels are allowed to take as many fruits and vegetables as they would like. The only exception is on days where we have limited amounts of an item, such as a prepackaged fruit cup.

Students at all grade levels are allowed to take a second helping of the entrée at their own cost. All students, regardless of free/reduced eligibility, will be charged for a second helping.

Our administration has agreed that purchasing just an entrée (such as a slice of pizza) is a privilege that only high school students are allowed. If a student at the elementary or middle school level would like the entrée, they are to pay for a full meal and take all of the required components

>> You may contact Mrs. Loether to prevent your student from purchasing second entrée helping or a la carte.
