CHS SPIRTIT SQUAD QUALIFIES FOR STATE

Congratulations to Spirit the following Squad members on qualifying for state: Jenna Helgestad (Senior Captain), Nataley Neuman (Sophmore Captain), Katie Seidl (Sophmore Captain),  Shelby Chapman, Kallie Rudoll, Hanna Paxson, Olivia Overturf, Alayna Milhoan, Andrea Livermore, Lucy Wallman, Taylor Last and Sarah Thomsen.  Coach Pam Cook states:"this team has worked very hard and is a wonderful group of young adults. I am grateful for their commitment to the Spirit Squad, to their School and to the Cambridge Community."   Congratu;ations on a great season girls!.
 

SCHEDULING FOR THE 2012-13 SCHOOL YEAR IS UNDER WAY

Scheduling information wasdistributed to students on January 30, and was due to return no later than Monday February 6.  Students were sdvised to register for courses that they intend to actually complete, as the master schedule is driven by actual course requests.  Any change after the master schedule is completed may cause unforeseen conflicts.   Actual schedules will be distributed to students in early May.  Students will be responsible to make any and all adjustments before the end of the school year, Thursday,  june 7.  After that date all schedules will be final.   

SMART BOARDS ARRIVE AT CHS

Thanks to a technology grant the Cambridge Schools have purchased and installed smart boards in every academic classroom over the winter break.   On Friday, January 27, all Cambridge teachers were trained in the use and application of smart boards in the delivery of instruction.  Thanks to the Kerr foundation for their generous grant.  Thanks also to  Mr Steven Frey and the custodial crew for their efforts to have all of the boards installed.  

COLLABORATION SCHEDULES BEGIN AT CHS AND NMS

On Wednesdays CHS and NMS will be running a modified schedule in order to meet a new mandate called RTI.   It involves finding time in the instructional day to offer remedial help for students in need, as well as enrichment activities for the other students.  The modified schedule has been  developed to create the time for meeting this requirement.  It offers a break in the instructional day where all students will be able to concentrate on their areas of need or interest.   It is not an extra class, and there will be no homework.   The program will be delivered through interest strands.  Students were surveyed to indicate which interest strands they wished to be scheduled for.   We will reschedule interest groups as needed at  several points throughout the year.  The students were introduced to the new schedule on Wednesday, 10-12, and the overall response was positive.  Each week during collaboration time a small group of staff will be freed to work on evaluating and improving our instructional delivery systems.  The collaboration period will be scheduled in the middle of the morning, so that all students will be present to take advantage of their interest strand.  The desired result of this  total program is that students be offered activities to meet their instructional enrichment needs, and that staff be given an opportunity to evaluate and improve instructional delivery.   Collaboration days are mandatory attendance days.

Welcome to Cambridge High School.  Home of the Blue Jays and proud member of the Capitol Conference.

Cambridge High School is a comprehensive high school, located in Eastern Dane County.  The academic program is delivered through a standard eight period day, with each class period running 47 minutes in length.  Our daily class schedule runs form 7:50 AM, to 3:00 PM.  A total of 25 credits are required for graduation, which must include 14 core academic credits, and 11 elective credits.  In addition, all students must complete a CPR certification and a senior portfolio exit interview.  A complete list of course offerings and graduation requirements can be found in the course description guide.  

CHS MISSION STATEMENT:  Cambridge High School strives to achieve excellence in the arts, academics, and athletics.  We are a community of life-long learners where the interrelationship between vocational and academic achievement is stressed.   We support students in pursuing their academic and vocational interests to the fullest, to become actively involved in their school, and to become responsible young adults.   We encourage our students to be positive leaders, and to do those things which bring respect and honor to their school, teachers, fellow students, family, and community. 

ARTS:  The fine arts program at Cambridge High School offers a variety of opportunities for students in both the performing and visual arts.  Our students continue to do well in the Capitol Conference Art Show, held annually each spring.  We offer four bands and three choirs, along with numerous other special performance opportunities.   Each year we have a good number of music students who perform well at the district and state solo-ensemble contests.  In addition, we offer at least one school musical per year.  

ACADEMICS:  Cambridge High School has enjoyed a rich history of academic excellence.  We have consistently scored above the state and national averages on standardized tests.  W e continue to increase the number of students taking the ACT, while also increasing our composite score.    In addition, the number of students that achieve college ready scores in the core academic areas has increased.   We continue to increase the number of students taking AP course offerings, while also increasing the number of students achieving a score of three or better on the AP exam.  Cambridge High School participates in the Capitol Conference academic competitions including: District Solo-Ensemble Music Contest; Honors Band and Honors Choir; Academic Bowl; Conference and State Math Contests; Forensics; Literary Journal; and the Top Ten Academic Recognition Banquet.    We offer a wide range of Programming for gifted students, students at risk, and students with exceptional educational needs.  Computer guided courses are used to individualize instruction where appropriate.  The guidance office helps to assist students as to which form of programming might be appropriate for their individual learning needs.

SMART BOARD TECHNOLOGY:  The school district has just completed the installatioon of smart boards in every academic classroom, and has trained all teachers in their use.  This new interactive teaching instrument has greatly enhanced instructional delivery for all students.

CURRENT AP COURSE OFFERINGS:  English Literature, Calculus, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Biology, Physics, Psychology, Government, Micro Economics, Macro Economics, World History, U.S. History, Art, and Spanish.

ATHLETICS:  As a proud member of the capitol conference we offer athletic programs in Baseball, Girls' and Boy's Basketball, Cheer Leading/Dance, Girl's and Boy's Cross Country, Football, Girl's and Boy's Golf, Girl's and Boy's Soccer, Softball, Girl's and Boy's Swimming, Girl's and Boy's Track, Volleyball, and Wrestling. 

CLUBS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES:  Other clubs and activities available to CHS students include Drama Club, Fall Musical, FFA, DECA, NHS, AFS, Student Government, Yearbook, Pep Band, Jazz Band, Show Choir, Art Club, History Club, Spanish Club, Environmental Club, Science Olympiad, Cambridge High School Youth Activities Program (HSAP), Swim Club, and a variety of other programming that is available through the Cambridge Community Activities Program.
