In addition to reading instruction in the classroom, reading interventions are provided for students in need of additional reading support. During intervention time, we are using an intervention curriculum titled Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) as well as other research based interventions.
During the lessons, we work on comprehension, vocabulary development, fluency practice, phonics, word study, and writing about their reading. We read both fiction and nonfiction texts and look at specific features of each.
We focus on learning new vocabulary, developing smoothness in reading, and deepening understanding of books through conversations around the books read.
