Cambridge School District receives Lighthouse Grant from Wisconsin Technology Initiative

Will be applied toward the installation of interactive whiteboards in classrooms.

The Cambridge School District is the recent recipient of a $168,000 grant from the Wisconsin Technology Initiative to help reduce the financial barriers of integrating instructional technology into district classrooms.

The Cambridge School District will be installing interactive whiteboards from SMART Technologies in a large majority of district classrooms.  An interactive whiteboard is a piece of hardware that looks much like a standard whiteboard but it connects to a computer and a projector in the classroom to make a very powerful tool. When connected, the interactive whiteboard becomes a giant, touch-sensitive version of the computer screen.

In addition to a mass infusion of interactive white boards, the grant will allow the district to add other state of the art classroom technology such as Smart Response Systems and document cameras.

“Our school system will see great benefits from this grant award.  Putting state of the art technology in the hands of our excellent teaching staff will allow us to incorporate 21st century learning activities like never before.  Being a recipient of this grant will improve student engagement which will in turn improve student learning,” states Cambridge District Administrator, Bernard Nikolay.

“We knew the Cambridge School District would understand the importance and would put the technology to good use,” said Mike Kerr, Executive Director of Wisconsin Technology Initiative. “We are excited to see the positive results that will come from this project.”

Welcome to the School District of Cambridge~

Located in the Village of Cambridge, in south central Wisconsin, we are proud of our small rural setting with a blend of scenic views, abundant agriculture, and an exceptional downtown shopping experience. Because of our close proximity to Madison and Milwaukee, Cambridge has become an ever-popular destination for tourists and for families looking for a community to call "home". Cambridge provides a wide range of unique shops, restaurants, Bed and Breakfasts and walking/biking trails surrounded by a blend of agriculture and pristine scenery. The shores of Lake Ripley lap against wonderfully kept Foundation Park, which is but one of 6 uniquely different parks that are a part of the greater Cambridge community.

Home to nearly 900 students, our district is widely recognized as one of the best in the area. The facilities include the recently built Cambridge Elementary School, with an Olympic size community pool, the beautifully renovated Nikolay Middle School and the well maintained Cambridge High School. We are proud of our completely restructured athletic field complex, with a new football/soccer/track and field stadium.

Most fundamentally, the School District of Cambridge offers a truly high quality education. Low class sizes and a skilled and dedicated professional educational team provide a learning community for students to attain legitimately excellent prepatory skills for college and technical school planning, or immediate entrance into the workforce. Test scores and other data support the knowledge that our students are succeeding in their life goals with a diverse blend of well-developed skills.

We hope you enjoy your "web" tour of our schools. We welcome you to visit us in person sometime soon. Please feel free to give me a call and I will gladly arrange a personal tour of our schools for you and your family.

Bernard J. Nikolay

District Administrator
